Writing or Making a Will?

Reasons for making your will

We all know that we should make a will to protect our loved ones but most of us (60%) haven’t got round to it.
Why is that then?

I don’t have enough to leave.

We’re all worth more dead than alive! Add together the value of your house, your life insurance policies, death in service benefit and your other assets and you might be surprised. And if your estate will be worth more than £300,000 each your family may have to pay Inheritance Tax. But whatever the amount surely you don’t want to add uncertainty to the upset to your family of not having a will.

It’ll automatically go where I want it to anyway.

Wrong. If you don’t have a will, your property gets divided up according to government rules. It doesn’t all go to your spouse whilst they’re still alive and if you have an unmarried partner they will lose out completely. And as solicitors we very often become involved in having to go to court for people to sort out problems where people haven’t had a will or had one drawn up badly.

It’s too much hassle.

It’ll take ten minutes now for you to complete our on line Will Questionnaire. We’ll do all the rest of the work except for signing it. You don’t need to list all your worldly goods, just to think about who you want to be looked after.

I’m too young, I’ll get round to it later.

When did you last think about doing your will? It was quite a while ago, and you didn’t get round to doing it then! No one can predict when they are going to die but doing it won’t kill you.

It’s an unnecessary cost.

It costs a lot less than most people imagine. It can be £84.00 plus VAT to have your own experienced legal professional to tailor make a will for you. It’s one of the most important documents you’ll ever sign: shouldn’t you do it properly?
